Millennium Films is currently accepting crew resumes for the film “Killing Season” De Niro and John Travolta.
To be directed by Ghost Rider’s Mark Steven Johnson, Millennium Films, Corsan Pictures and FilmEngine will begin production January 16, 2012. Travolta going to Atlanta for it. "I've loved this project from the moment I read Evan Daugherty's remarkable script," said Corsan CEO Paul Breuls. "It's thrilling, imaginative, unexpected and dominated by two extraordinary characters on a collision course."

A form of literature candy, it gives a sugar rush with its metaphors and flamboyant world. Initially trying to acclimatize to the characters such as the De La Crèmes, the places such as Peppertown, Metopia, and the unrelenting alliteration, is almost too much. Yet it is worth the effort to fully immerse oneself into this fashionable fictional world.
In Modelland, the exclusive, mysterious place on top of the mountain, some recognizable facts are worn. Banks skillfully takes the reader through a fantastical journey reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In this book Smizes not chocolate bars are key to life changing adventure.
15-year-old whipped cream loving Tookie De La Crème is the female Charlie; though she comes from a less loving family. A lonely Forgetta-Girl, she longs to become memorable. But not even her untamed hair, mismatched eyes, large forehead and gawky body can make her stand out from the crowd. Surprisingly on the Day of Discovery or T-DOD, she, not her perfect sister Myraccle, is chosen to become a Bella and a potential Intoxibella (supermodel).
The plot echoes a series of America’s Next Top Model, the show former supermodel and Talk Show host Banks created, which is now shown in 170 countries. The worldliness of Banks’ personal experience is also evident in the book with a plurality of cultures featured.
In this luminescent world of Thigh High Boot Camp, Catwalk Corridor, CaraCaraCara, The OohAh! Spa; Flashback Females and Manattack; where Teachers are Gurus, Servants are Mannecants, Nurses are Purses on skates, and time is told by shades of colour, there is much to learn and experience. This includes first love for Tookie who encounters the charming Bravo.
But it is not all fun in the Dorms and M Building; there is the threat of Ci-L and the Belladonna, and the danger of the Diabolical Divide and diabolically bitchy Bellas such as Zarpessa. Not once will Tookie and her new found friends bid to escape ironically while her mother and sister try to break into Modelland via the Pilgrim Passage.
But the challenges Tookie faces are worth it; they make her into a Rememba-girl rather than breaking her. Banks uses Tookie as an exemplar of teen angst and no doubt builds on her experience running the TZONE Foundation to highlight teen insecurity, self-harming, and eating disorders.
Though aimed at teenagers, the book has wide appeal with its insight into the world of fashion, and keen observations on the world’s obsession with fashion and limited conceptions of beauty, a cause that Banks has dedicated herself to redefining. Indeed, fans will see a lot of Banks’ personality in the book as well as fashion iconography in the form ‘Evanjalinda’ and ‘Bevjo’.
Havard Business School graduate Banks has crafted a greatly detailed story with believable characters and a far from predictable plot. Modelland would make a great film and with Bankable productions, Banks’ production company, it may be on the cards. In the meantime, the sequel in this trilogy is one to watch out for.

Roald Dahl’s CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Mudlark Theater Company continues its 7th season with Roald Dahl’s CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, a candy-coated adventure that is as sinister as it is sweet. Directed by Associate Artistic Director Janna Sobel, CHARLIE finishes its two-weekend run this Friday, Dec. 9 through Sunday, Dec. 11, at The House Theater, 1417 Hinman Ave., in Evanston. CHARLIE continues with 7:30 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday and another 6 p.m. show on Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for children and students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or online at www.mudlarktheater.org.
Sobel says she and Mudlark Artistic Director Andrew Biliter and Managing Director Michael Miro had been looking for the right space to stage a production of CHARLIE for quite some time. “Then we actually found one that was just right under our noses,” she says, explaining that the theater is in the lower level of the Evanston church building where the children’s theater company’s office and rehearsal space is located. “It’s exciting because it actually is exactly what we wanted.” The concept was to break down the “fourth wall” for an environmental production that puts audience members directly at the center of the action. “It really looks like the inside of a factory and has this industrial, urban feel to it.”
As Willy Wonka, Chicago actor and improviser Jeff Rukes leads a cast of 25 young Mudlark actors through the delightfully dark tale of fantasy and industry. “Willy Wonka has to be this very dapper dandy and genteel gentleman, but at the same time sinister and diabolical. It’s a difficult role and has been played by all the best actors. I was thrilled to get Jeff for the part.” But it’s the young actors who get the greatest workout of the production, sliding in, on and off stage as the sticky fable of privilege and poverty unfolds. “It becomes a very dynamic, almost athletic piece,” Sobel adds. “I really love the way that we enter the space with the audience and invite them into the experience.”

CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Is CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY headed for the West End? According to The Daily Mail, director Sam Mendes is readying the show for a 2013 West End bow at the London Palladium, pending negotiations with Warner Brothers.
In the Warner Bros film, based on Roald Dahl's book, eccentric candy manufacturer Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp) has announced a contest in which five lucky winners of golden tickets hidden in Wonka Bars will be taken on a tour of the Wonka Factory. Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore) finds the last golden ticket, and chooses to bring his Grandpa Joe (David Kelly) to the factory, while the other four spoilt children bring their parents. The golden ticket winners and company are taken on a magical tour of the factory, complete with yummy candy, edible grass, chocolate waterfalls and Oompa-Loompas. Charlie watches the other children abuse Willy Wonka's inventions, with unfortunate consequences for them, so that by the end of the tour, he's the only one left and is awarded the ultimate prize - keys to the Wonka Factory.
Work has already begun on the stage adaptation: Mark Thompson is designing the factory, and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are writing the music. David Greig penned the libretto. Mendes plans to rehearse in the early months of 2013 and open in the spring.
Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2011
The world watched as Victoria's Secret Angel Adriana Lima strutted her stuff down the runway at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2011, wearing some of the most exquisite boudoir ensembles.
Lima is a 30-year-old Brazilian bombshell and mother to two-year-old daugther Valentina; and she worked it like a pro during the Fashion Show broadcast on CBS Tuesday night.
The brunette beauty, and one of the most popular VS Angels, wore one of the centerpiece garments from the "I Put a Spell on You" collection. Creative designer for the VS show, Todd Thomas, explained the inspiration behind these looks.
"In putting together 'I Put a Spell on You,' we were really trying to creative the idea of steamy, sultry turn-of-the-century New Orleans."
The black-wings paired with deep purple lingerie outfit worn by Lima was beloved by the model herself. "This is my favorite outfit ever," she said. She embodied the fusion of "innocence and sensuality," said Thomas.
However, there is more to Lima than meets the eye (though most are content with leaving it at just that).
In a behind-the-scenes interview with the Angels, fellow VS models revealed some interesting facts about the Brazilian superstar.
"Adriana off the runway is a crazy boxer," said Behati Prinsloo.
"Adriana - if she wants to do something, she'll do it. She's unstoppable," said Erin Heatherton.
"She's like Superwoman," said Candice Swanepoel.
During the interview, a clip of Lima fiercely boxing played. Then the 'unstoppable' beauty held up her scraped knuckles. Pretty hardcore.
The supermodel is also known for her charitable work at orphanages and donations to children suffering life-threatening diseases.
Lima took to Twitter before the show to get everyone excited. "Watch tonight 9ET, Victoria Secrets Pre Show Live!@VictoriasSecret #VSFashionShow..... See you soon!!! Have a surprise ;)" she posted.
After the show, she tweeted again, thanking all of her fans for their never-ending support. "I would like to thank all of my Twitter fans!!! I really appreciate all of your love and support!!!"

Wednesday was Mindy McCready's 36th birthday, but...
Country singer Mindy McCready said Wednesday she probably will not be able to bring her 5-year-old son back to Florida to fulfill a judge's order by Thursday afternoon -- because she is nearly seven months pregnant with twins. By not returning as ordered, she risks arrest.
Speaking exclusively to The Associated Press, Mindy McCready said she and her mother have had a long custody battle over the boy, Zander. Her mother was awarded guardianship in 2007.
The battle became more public this week, when the Florida Department of Children and Families said a missing person report was filed with police after Mindy McCready took Zander from her father's home. McCready was able to visit with the boy there under a court order, and the 36-year-old singer said she had spent much of the past month with her son at the home. Her mother and father are divorced.
McCready alleges that her son suffered abuse while living at her mother's home and that is one reason why she left with the boy last week.
"I'm a mom first," said Mindy McCready from Nashville, Tennessee. "No matter what happens, I'm going to protect my kid. If I have to go to jail, so be it."
When reached at her home Wednesday night, McCready's mother, Gayle Inge, said the abuse allegations are "absolutely not true."
During the interview with the AP, a tearful McCready recounted a messy and confusing tale of court custody battles and family fights.
On Tuesday, the Florida agency discovered that McCready and the boy were not at her father's home and a judge ruled she must return him voluntarily by 5 p.m. Thursday or risk an arrest warrant.
Mindy McCready said she was under the impression that the Florida judge was transferring the custody case to Tennessee and that it wouldn't be a problem if she brought him there.
Since topping the country charts in the mid-1990s with her music, the singer's life has been filled with domestic abuse, drug arrests and a suicide attempt. In August, she filed the libel suit in Palm Beach County against her mother and the National Enquirer's parent company, American Media Inc., over a story published in the tabloid newspaper that quoted Inge.
McCready, whose son could be heard giggling on the other end of the line Wednesday as his mother spoke to the AP, said the father of her twins is a music producer named David who is supportive of her quest to regain custody of Zander.
Wednesday was Mindy McCready's 36th birthday.
"I hope that for my birthday, I get my son forever," Mindy McCready said.

When news broke on Tuesday that comedian Patrice O'Neal had died at 41 from complications of a stroke, those closest to him began to react to the sad news.
Ricky Gervais is one of the many friends and celebrity fans who has reacted to the news, recalling a fondness for the comedian's sense of humor and wit. "One of my favourite stand up comedians," he tweeted.
"So sad. RIP," Kevin Smith added. "I shared some air & some air time with the man on O&A; he was always funny & thoughtful. Patrice — he WILL be missed."
"Saturday Night Live" star Seth Meyers remembered the comic on Twitter as well. "RIP Patrice O'Neal," he wrote. "A day spent watching clips of him on-line is a day well spent."
Dane Cook knew the comic for a long time, and he shared his memories of him on Twitter. "I started my career w/ Patrice O'Neal," he wrote. "He was 1 of the best ever. Fond memories of road gigs, late night eats & laughs."
Pro wrestler Chris Jericho, who knew comedian Patrice O'Neal when he worked as a writer for the WWE, also tweeted about his passing. "Sad to hear about Patrice O'Neal. ... I met him when he was a WWE writer and worked w him many times," he wrote. "Sweet guy and very funny! God bless u man."

The History Of Patrice O'Neal
Patrice O'Neal began his comedy career in his native Boston at an open mic at Estelle's Bar and Grill in October 1992. In the late 1990s, he moved to New York City, where he became a regular at the Comedy Cellar, before relocating to Los Angeles, in the hopes of finding greater fame. Limited to guest roles in television and small TV roles, O'Neal has publicly discussed the frustrations and how they took their toll on him: "I'm telling you, if I'd have had a gun back then, I would have shot myself."
Frustrated by his lack of success in Los Angeles, Patrice O'Neal relocated to the United Kingdom to work on his comedy there. He worked harder as an outsider and a foreigner to gain the respect of his peers, and after some months he became a fixture in the UK clubs. He returned to the New York area in 2002 when he got the offer to do his first half-hour special for Showtime. The following year, he recorded a Comedy Central Presents special. It was also at this time he became a fixture on Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn on the same network.
Patrice O'Neal had many guest appearances on television. His first television appearance was on The Apollo Comedy Hour where he performed his Malcolm XXL bit. From there, he moved on to appearances on Showtime at the Apollo, FNight Videos, and a brief stint as a writer for the WWE. He appeared in guest-starring roles on MTV’s Apt 2F, Assy McGee, Ed, Z Rock, Yes Dear, Arrested Development, Chappelle Show and The Office. O'Neal was a regular on the Fox series The Jury, and he starred in the Comedy Central animated program Shorties Watching Shorties, along with Nick DiPaolo. He supplied the voice of Harold Jenkins on Noggin’s animated program O'Grady High and was featured as Jesus in Denis Leary’s Searchlight. In 2005, O'Neal filmed a half-hour One Night Stand special for HBO, and shortly thereafter became the first host of VH1's Web Junk 20. O'Neal left the show after two seasons, expressing concerns that the show's audience was too different from his own. In 2006 and 2007 he joined Opie and Anthony's Traveling Virus Comedy Tour, playing large outdoor concert arenas across the country.
Since his move back to New York in 2002, Patrice O'Neal became a recognized radio personality as a regular guest and occasional co-host on the Opie and Anthony program. Along with Bill Burr and Robert Kelly, he filled in as co-host for comedian Jim Norton while he filmed Lucky Louie. From 2006 to 2008, O'Neal hosted an call-in relationship advice show on XM Radio, which ended when the satellite network merged with rival Sirius. Initially promoted as Bitch Management, the show was titled The Black Philip Show, a reference to Dr. Phil. Dante Nero co-hosted, and a rotating cast of female comedians have played third mic. The show aired until the station suspended much of its Saturday night programming due to budget concerns. O'Neal had also appeared as a guest on other radio shows like Alex Jones and The Howard Stern Show and numerous guest appearances on political talk shows on the Fox News channel.
Living in the New York area, he performed at comedy clubs in the area, including headlining appearances at Comix comedy club and Caroline's. In February of 2011, Comedy Central aired his first hour-long special, Elephant in the Room. Patrice O'Neal started a web series and podcast called The Patrice Oneal Show - Coming Soon![4] showing various episodes as of May 15, 2007. On October 26, 2011, it was announced on The Opie and Anthony Show that Patrice O'Neal had suffered a stroke a week earlier, on October 19. He died from complications from his stroke a month later on November 28, 2011. Patrice O'Neal had struggled with diabetes and weight issues for several years.

Patrice O'Neal had many guest appearances on television. His first television appearance was on The Apollo Comedy Hour where he performed his Malcolm XXL bit. From there, he moved on to appearances on Showtime at the Apollo, FNight Videos, and a brief stint as a writer for the WWE. He appeared in guest-starring roles on MTV’s Apt 2F, Assy McGee, Ed, Z Rock, Yes Dear, Arrested Development, Chappelle Show and The Office. A yacht captain said Friday that he lied to investigators about Natalie Wood's mysterious death 30 years ago and blames the actress' husband, Robert Wagner, for her drowning in the ocean off Southern California.
The circumstances of her death remain one of Hollywood's enduring mysteries, and homicide detectives on Thursday unexpectedly reopened the case that had long been classified as a tragic accident.
A Los Angeles County sheriff's detective will speak to reporters Friday about the decision to take another look at the Oscar-nominated actress' nighttime death in the chilly waters on Nov. 29, 1981. Wood drowned after spending several hours drinking on Catalina Island in a yacht with Wagner, fellow actor Christopher Walken and
the ship's captain, Dennis Davern.
Davern, skipper of the Splendour, told NBC's "Today" show on Friday that he made mistakes by not telling the truth about events leading to the death and had urged Los Angeles County sheriff's homicide investigators to reopen the case.
It is the latest attempt by Davern to change the official account of what happened in the hours before Wood's death.
"Was the fight between Natalie Wood and her husband Robert Wagner what ultimately led to her death?" show host David Gregory asked.
"Yes," Davern replied.
"How so?"
"Like I said, that's going to be up to the investigators to decide," the captain said after a long pause.
Davern said he believes Wagner intentionally kept the investigation into Wood's death low profile and didn't do everything he could have done.
Davern has said for years that the official account of Wood's disappearance was not what really happened, including in a 1992 appearance on a Geraldo Rivera special and in a 2000 Vanity Fair piece. He also worked with author and friend Marti Rulli on "Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour," a book released last year.
Wagner spokesman Alan Nierob said Friday a statement he released Thursday spoke for itself.
"Although no one in the Wagner family has heard from the LA County Sheriff's department about this matter, they fully support the efforts of the LA County Sheriff's Dept. and trust they will evaluate whether any new information relating to the death of Natalie Wood Wagner is valid, and that it comes from a credible source or sources other than those simply trying to profit from the 30 year anniversary of her tragic death," Nierob wrote in the statement.
Davern denied he was motivated to speak out for profit.
Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Thursday the renewed inquiry was prompted by unspecified new information about Woods' case. The Los Angeles Times reported that Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca said detectives want to talk to Davern and that he had "made comments worthy of exploring." The paper said the agency had also received information from an unidentified third party.
In the Vanity Fair story, Davern is quoted as saying that Wood and Wagner fought in their cabin before the actress disappeared. Coroner's officials ruled her death an accidental drowning, perhaps caused by her slipping off the boat while trying to tie down a dinghy.
She was found wearing a flannel nightgown, socks and a down jacket and Davern identified her body for authorities, according to an autopsy report. Her body had superficial bruises, according to the report, but those were considered consistent with drowning.
Her death sparked tabloid speculation that foul play was involved, but Wagner and Wood's sister have dismissed any suggestion the actress' death was anything more than an accident. Coroner's officials at the time agreed, writing that Wood was "possibly attempting to board the dinghy and had fallen into the water, striking her face."
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said the agency hadn't been asked to do any additional investigation into Wood's case.
Sheriff's officials are hoping for tips from the public that may shed new light on how Wood, who was afraid of being in the water, ended up drowning.
Wood, a three-time Oscar nominee famous for roles in "West Side Story," ''Rebel Without a Cause" and other Hollywood hits, was 43 when she died. She and Wagner were twice married, first in 1957 before divorcing six years later. They remarried in 1972.

"Nobody knows," he wrote. "There are only two possibilities; either she was trying to get away from the argument, or she was trying to tie the dinghy. But the bottom line is that nobody knows exactly what happened."

Joanna Barnes (born 15 November 1934) is an American actress and writer.
Barnes was born in Boston, Massachusetts, but moved to Los Angeles, California soon after finishing her education, and took up a contract with Columbia Pictures. She has since had roles in more than 20 films and made guest appearances on many television shows, including 77 Sunset Strip, Maverick, and Have Gun - Will Travel. Her performance in the 1958 film Auntie Mame as the snooty 'Gloria Upson' earned her a Golden Globe nomination for "New Star of the Year." She portrayed Lola in the 1959 NBC-TV detective series, 21 Beacon Street.
Barnes became the 13th actress to play Jane when she appeared in Tarzan, the Ape Man (1959), opposite Denny Miller as Tarzan.

10. Walt Kowalski, Gran Torino (2008)
Let’s be clear: I think this movie is a disaster. In my original review, I wrote that “Gran Torino plays like some sort of R-rated Hallmark made-for-TV movie,” and I stand by that. But one of the main problems with this formulaic piece of feel-good simplicity is that Eastwood out-acts everyone around him to a distracting level. He plays a growly Korean War vet who is a caricature of lots of roles he’s played before, but he still manages to give Walt Kowalski
a depth that the mostly amateur actors around him can’t even come close to. It feels like they are in a different movie, and it’s frankly uncomfortable to watch, creating a kind of dissonance with the tried-and-true formula that you think you are supposed to be seeing. If you’ve ever watched Gran Torino and felt something was a little “off” about it, that’s Eastwood bringing more to his character than it deserved.

The studio executives asked Eastwood why anyone would want to go see a movie where Clint Eastwood plays a radio DJ, and he reportedly answered that he wasn’t sure. What he knew is that the script was a button-pushing suspense thriller and he was ready to make his debut as a director. In fact, they wanted him as an actor and he volunteered as director just so he could start doing it. Jessica Walter, as the obsessed woman who stalks Eastwood’s character, got the Golden Globe for the showier role, but without his character’s aversion to commitment and self-centered cool demeanor, the movie wouldn’t have been as effective. The fact that a tough guy like Clint could be the victim of a crazed stalker made the film even scarier.
8. Red Garnett, A Perfect World (1993)
“I don’t know nothing. I don’t know a damn thing.” Those are the words spoken by Eastwood as Texas Ranger Chief Garnett at the end of the most underrated of all his classic films, A Perfect World, which Eastwood also directed. This film has another bit of nifty casting, in that Kevin Costner is playing the criminal-with-a-heart-of-gold part that a younger Eastwood would normally play, while Eastwood is the somewhat bumbling lawman who is on his tail. It’s a supporting role, for sure, but in his fancy airstream trailer with a feminist criminologist (Laura Dern) and trigger-happy sharpshooter (Bradley Whitford) in tow, Eastwood has plenty of opportunity to play off his co-stars. Things don’t turn out the way Garnett wants them to, and he is forced to re-examine the whole idea of good guys and bad guys.
7. Frank Horrigan, In the Line of Fire (1993)
Wolfgang Peterson (Das Boot) knows his way around a taut thriller, and that’s exactly what he delivers here. But what sells the movie — which is essentially a cat-and-mouse game between a would-be-presidential-assassin (John Malkovich) and the secret service agent trying to stop him (Eastwood) — is Eastwood’s subtle performance. Frank is haunted everyday by the fact that President Kennedy was killed on his watch, and although Eastwood is playing another variation on the grizzled man of few words, he elevates the entire affair. Eastwood alone gives the movie the soul it might have otherwise been missing as he struggles to convince him self that he doesn’t have anything in common with the assassin who thinks they are cosmically linked. Of course, what gets rewarded come Oscar time? (Not subtlety!) John Malkovich got a supporting actor nomination for playing crazy, Clint got nada. See a pattern forming here? Speaking of patterns, how come we haven’t seen Morgan Freeman yet?
6. Josey Wales, The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
Eastwood took over directorial duties on this Civil War-set movie after having screenwriter/director Philip Kaufman fired, and ended up bridging the gap between traditional and revisionist Westerns. The title character from The Outlaw Josey Wales is still the strong-mostly-silent type, like the Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western films that made Eastwood famous, but he also has a clearer sense of right and wrong. Although he probably prefers to be alone, Wales can’t help but take on companionship in the form of a Cherokee Chief, a grandma, and a love interest (his six-year romance with co-star Sandra Locke began here) during his quest for revenge. Eastwood makes Wales an altogether more likable outlaw without losing any of the inherent toughness his character usually have.
5. Robert Kincaid, The Bridges of Madison County (1995)
Playing against type, Eastwood is a National Geographic photographer who falls in love with an Iowa housewife (Meryl Streep) and has a brief, passionate love affair. It’s not one of his classic films and it’s melodrama for sure, but Eastwood’s understated adaptation of Robert James Waller’s best-selling novel doesn’t pander. Staying away from overt sentimentality, Eastwood’s Kincaid begins as a fantasy figure for Streep’s bored housewife, but in Eastwood’s skilled hands, he becomes a three-dimensional person who slowly realizes how lonely he really is. A melancholy film about dreams that never happened, The Bridges of Madison County works because Eastwood allows the audience a peek behind his ever-manly veneer.
4. Harry Callahan, Dirty Harry (1971)
Would you believe me if I told you that this role was originally meant for Frank Sinatra? It’s hard to imagine, but true. So imprinted on the American consciousness is Eastwood’s take-no-shit, screw-personal-rights borderline fascist vigilante cop Dirty Harry that its star and character are forever linked. This movie was the one that cemented Eastwood as an icon, although Magnum Force (1973), The Enforcer (1976), Sudden Impact (1983), and The Dead Pool (1988) kept Dirty Harry alive for years afterward, with diminishing returns. Could anyone else have said the line “You’ve got to ask yourself a question: ‘Do I feel lucky?’ Well, do ya, punk?” and pulled it off without cracking a smile or looking ridiculous doing so? No way. (Certainly Schwarzenegger couldn’t. He became known for his bad pre- and post-kill punchlines.) For better or worse, this is one character Eastwood will never escape.

Frankie is one of those hard-asses with a soft center that Eastwood knows inside and out, and his work as seen-it-all boxing trainer Frankie Dunn in the Best Picture winner Million Dollar Baby is the most emotionally affecting and humanistic of his career. It’s another restrained performance in a body of classic films, but the years of regret and guilt that have piled up on Frankie show in every inch of his body and Eastwood’s interactions with his co-stars ring with truth in every scene (even when some other characterizations border on camp). As with almost all of Eastwood’s best work, his Million Dollar Baby co-stars Hillary Swank and Morgan Freeman won Oscars, but nothing for him. (Well, if you don’t count his second Best Director award.) And, just to prove that nothing is sacred, I have to include this hilarious 5-second video (with significant SPOILERS) that reducesMillion Dollar Baby to a one-note joke, but also makes me laugh out loud every time I watch it.

I could very well have picked any one of the Sergio Leone ‘Man-with-no-name’ Spaghetti Western trilogy, A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), or The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, but I’m going with this one because it’s the most well-known of the three. Sergio Leone may have meant the following quote from 1984 as an insult to Eastwood, but it ultimately showcases what it is about his poncho-clad character that makes him so unique: “Eastwood moves like a sleepwalker between explosions and hails of bullets, and he is always the same—a block of marble.” Although it was considered violent and morally repugnant by some critics at the time of its release, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is now rightly considered a masterpiece of its genre and the faint hint of humanity that Eastwood shows in this movie was enough to garner the audience’s sympathy and finally make him an international movie star. Blondie always looks like he’s one step ahead of the game, with another trick up his sleeve, even when his options seem to be exhausted. Isn’t it ironic that one of America’s best loved actor/directors initially made his name with an Italian film?

Clint Eastwood deconstructs the Western myth in this timeless tale of redemption and/or lack thereof and forms the most fully fleshed-out of all his Western characters in classic films with Unforgiven, which was the first movie he directed to win Best Picture. (Like that film, it also has co-star Morgan Freeman in common.) If anybody knows this territory, its Eastwood. Between a clever script that pokes fun at gunslingers while also looking seriously at the consequences of a hard and violent life and the weathered experience Eastwood brings to the table as an actor, Unforgiven is the whole package. Every Western he’s ever starred in felt like it was leading up to this film. Unforgiven is the ultimate final word on the genre from one of its masters, and his performance as antihero William Munny is an angry condemnation of those who may glorify the violent tendencies of some of Eastwood’s earlier characters. Compare, for instance, this quote from Munny in Unforgiven to the Dirty Harry quote in #4: “”It’s a hell of a thing killin’ a man. You take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.” Again, I have to mention the lack of attention to Eastwood’s acting again: Unforgiven won Best Picture and Best Director (while co-star Gene Hackman earned a well-deserved supporting win), but Eastwood lost Best Actor to … wait for it … Al Pacino in Scent of a Woman, a late-term career pity award if there ever was one.

Let’s be clear: I think this movie is a disaster. In my original review, I wrote that “Gran Torino plays like some sort of R-rated Hallmark made-for-TV movie,” and I stand by that. But one of the main problems with this formulaic piece of feel-good simplicity is that Eastwood out-acts everyone around him to a distracting level. He plays a growly Korean War vet who is a caricature of lots of roles he’s played before, but he still manages to give Walt Kowalskia depth that the mostly amateur actors around him can’t even come close to. It feels like they are in a different movie, and it’s frankly uncomfortable to watch, creating a kind of dissonance with the tried-and-true formula that you think you are supposed to be seeing. If you’ve ever watched Gran Torino and felt something was a little “off” about it, that’s Eastwood bringing more to his character than it deserved.

The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Sunday (Nov. 6)
It really is remarkable how the various "Real Housewives" franchises have each managed to mature into very different portraits of mostly silly, fame-seeking women. "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" is no exception and on Sunday (Nov. 6) the Bravo show returns for its fourth season.
Sheree Whitfield and Phaedra Parks join Kandi Burruss for a little sex toy research. Kandi, it seems, is thinking about expanding her product line to include adult toys. And, as you'll see on Sunday, she's not the only one with the entrepreneurial spirit.

JET asked the ladies to give their takes on all their other castmates. We already know after this morning that Sheree and NeNe are no longer cool. So Sheree said about NeNe, "I wouldn't trust her as far as I can throw her."
Kandi applauded NeNe saying, "She's a hustler....She's about getting paper. She's always got something in the works." But kept it real about Kim saying, "She's the type of person who knows how to play dumb when she wants to but really knows what's going on..."
Kim stayed mum about her frenemy NeNe saying, "It is what it is..." and revealed that she finally stopped smoking once she got pregnant again.
Phaedra said about Kandi, "She's a brilliant businesswoman. She reminds me a lot of myself, and I just love her." Of course she does Phaedra....
Cynthia said about Kim, "We definitely had some tiffs, but only about trivial things. But on the show it ends up looking like big things."
NeNe revealed she has a wine coming out and she's now a restauranteur--after opening her Famiglia franchise. And she had some ish to say about her castmates. About Kandi she said, "She's real, she's down to earth. But Kandi is not easy to get to know. I actually find her kind of mean."
About Sheree she says, "Sheree is very mean spirited. I think Sheree thinks she's everything. She's got a bad attitude."
And about Phaedra, NeNe commented, "I almost feel like she was that girl at home looking at the tv going, 'Let me on that show!' I call her Fake-dra."

Who knew the RHOA had such depressing background stories?
Who knew the RHOA had such depressing background stories? I was looking forward to mocking their old faces and hairstyles, and I still will, but there’s a lot of sad stuff to muddle thrugh too. Somehow I’ll find the strength to skewer them. My life is so hard.
Nene’s mom had her at a young age and wasn’t financially stable so Nene had to live with her aunt. Nene held a grudge against her mother but used it to fuel her dreams of one day making a career out of taking her anger out on others. She was a cheerleader, basketball player and member of 4-H in school. That’s an interesting combo. In my high school, the basketball players wouldn’t be caught dead cheerleading for football season and the basketball players would have flipped the 4-H tractor so that’s great that she was able to pul that off. Nene went off to college in Atlanta and met a guy at a club. She discovered that he was abusive when they were at a party on campus and he pulled off her fake ponytail. He cried, she cried and she knew it was love.
A few months into their relationship, Nene ended up pregnant and he claimed that it was not his. Nene dropped out and went home. Her mom was prepared to reunite with Nene at this point but before she could get there, she passed away. After that tragedy, Nene ended up getting back together with her son’s father. They stayed together for five years until one night he took her from her friend’s house at gunpoint in a jealous rage. That’s just rude! He was arrested that night though and she finally ended things with him. Fortunately, this led to the eventual founding of her charity, Twisted Hearts, which served as endless fodder for those who thought it sounded like an 80’s band or a Valentine candy from Spencer’s.
Nene ended up stripping to support herself and she admits that she enjoyed it, treated the men like ATMs and made so much money that she couldn’t stop. Why do parents always make stripping out to be a bad thing? She ended up meeting Greg “through a mutual friend” at a “martini bar” and he pursued her until she gave in out of boredom. In other words, she met him though another stripper at the club and found a sucker. Professionally, Nene was in traveling fashion shows and she was skinny! I don’t think she’s fat now but I was truly shocked. Nene then got a part in “Fighting Temptations” in which she played a stripper. She was also in a few TV shows until she landed RHOA.
I get the feeling that this marriage wasn’t legal in most states.
As a child, Kim was a Navy brat who developed her love for seamen at an early age. She was a good kid but when she got to high school, she discovered the joys of chain smoking and opening her legs to married men. Kim was kicked out of Catholic school for stealing an ice cream sandwich but it didn’t matter because she knew that she would be somebody. After all, she took ballet and jazz as a kid and got cake & flowers after her recitals. According to her, it was like having a wedding every year. FYI Kim, funerals have cake and flowers so let’s not get carried away here and 87 million other girls around the world, myself included, had the same dance experience. It doesn’t mean that you’re somebody. It means that your parents are hoping you won’t be a cow and it guarantees that for at least two hours a week you’ll be doing splits for a valid reason.
